Night Works

In order to create a stable base for the clock tower scaffolding that would not compromise the integrity of the roof, temporary steel work was installed around the base of the tower. As this required a 200 tonne crane to lift the steel into place, Flinders Street had to be closed. This meant that work could not commence until the last tram for the day had passed the station. Over two nights, all the necessary scaffolding and the structural steelwork was lifted onto the roof.

Once the work to the clock tower had been completed the process was undertaken in reverse.
